A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING RUTH ORTIZ FOR HER YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE NEW
MEXICO STATE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, Ruth Ortiz, a lifelong resident of Santa Fe and
a long-time employee of the legislature, began her career at
the legislature in 1959 as a committee secretary in a
secretarial pool for the house of representatives; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Ortiz remained an employee with the house
of representatives from 1959 until 1967, working part time for
Representatives Jack Morgan, Fred Foster and Ray Davenport;
and
WHEREAS, while Ruth Ortiz worked part time in the house
of representatives, she raised her children, Olivia, Mardell,
David, Art, Teresa and Alan, dedicating herself to their
upbringing, providing them with excellent educational
foundations and setting their courses for fulfillment in life;
and
WHEREAS, in 1967, Ruth Ortiz began her career at the
legislative council service, where she served for twenty-three
years, until she retired in June 1990; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, the indefatigable Ruth Ortiz went to
work for the senate as a committee secretary, where she
remained for the next seven years; and
WHEREAS, in 1999, Ruth Ortiz next served as a committee

secretary in the house of representatives, working under
Representative Danice Picraux in the majority office; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Ortiz worked on the house education
committee from 2000 until 2006 with Representative Rick Miera;
and
WHEREAS, Ruth Ortiz currently serves as committee
secretary to the house judiciary committee under
Representative Al Park; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Ortiz is known to maintain a calm and
unflappable manner even under the greatest of pressure; and
WHEREAS, those with whom and for whom Ruth Ortiz has
worked say that Ruth has been a valuable and valued staff
member who has exhibited the highest of professional standards
in all of her job capacities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Ruth Ortiz be
recognized and thanked for her many years of dedicated service
in the house of representatives, in the senate and at the
legislative council service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
transmitted to Ruth Ortiz.
