A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY AND ITS NEW MEXICO
AFFILIATE CHAPTER, IOTA XI OMEGA, ON ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA'S ONE
HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, incorporated, which
was founded on January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard
university in Washington, D.C., is the oldest Greek letter
sorority in the United States and is celebrating its one
hundredth anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority represents a union
of thousands of college-trained women who are bound by a
powerful, cohesive strength, based on trust and loyalty, that
is a motivating factor in the lives of students at more than
four hundred institutions of higher education; and
WHEREAS, as a significant organization, the sorority
supports education, leadership and a strong sense of family in
an ever-changing and increasingly complex world; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority empowers communities
through exemplary service initiatives and progressive
programs; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority provides an
inspiration to many and adheres to its national motto, "by
merit and by culture", and to its purpose, to be "supreme in
service to all mankind"; and
