AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO WESTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY FOR RECURRING ATHLETIC PROGRAM NEEDS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred forty thousand dollars ($540,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of western New Mexico university for expenditure in fiscal years 2008 through 2010 to fund increased travel expenses, conference commitments, staffing and equipment needs and gender equity requirements in athletic programs and to support rodeo competition. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2010 shall revert to the general fund.

     Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
