AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR EXPANDED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL RECRUITMENT, RETENTION AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--
A. One million seven hundred fifty-six thousand five hundred dollars ($1,756,500) is appropriated from the general fund to the following departments for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 and subsequent fiscal years to fund expanded health professional recruitment, retention and educational opportunities:
(1) to the higher education department in the following amounts:
(a) one million dollars ($1,000,000) to fund the health professional loan repayment program;
(b) two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) to fund the medical student loan for services program;
(c) one hundred six thousand five hundred dollars ($106,500) to fund the western interstate commission for higher education program; and
(d) one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) to fund a program assisting nursing faculty in obtaining higher degree levels; and
(2) three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to the department of health to fund the health service corps.
B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a fiscal year shall not revert to the general fund.
