AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A PILOT PROGRAM TO PROVIDE COLLEGE TUITION TO TEACHERS IN THE LAS VEGAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT IF THE TEACHERS TUTOR STUDENTS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico highlands university for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 for a pilot program to provide tuition to teachers in the Las Vegas city public school district if the teachers tutor students. As part of the program, principals from the school district and officials from New Mexico highlands university shall determine the ratio of the number of hours tutored to the amount of tuition paid. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
