AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ESTABLISH AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR STUDENT ATHLETES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred eighty-five thousand dollars ($185,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the higher education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 to establish an educational program for student athletes through central New Mexico community college. The program targets student athletes attending four-year institutions and consists of developmental courses to help increase the grade-point averages of student athletes without sacrificing athletic eligibility. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
