AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER PROGRAMS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. Three hundred fifteen thousand dollars ($315,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 in the following amounts for the following school districts to develop and implement English language learner programs for students to learn language skills from basic to advanced level:

                (1) ninety thousand dollars ($90,000) for the Santa Rosa consolidated school district;

                (2) forty-five thousand dollars ($45,000) for the Floyd municipal school district;

                (3) ninety thousand dollars ($90,000) for the Portales municipal school district; and

                (4) ninety thousand dollars ($90,000) for the Fort Sumner municipal school district.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
