A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING AND ENDORSING THE NEW MEXICO CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AS A
SUCCESSFUL MODEL FOR YOUTH ADVOCACY AND CIVIC PREPAREDNESS.
WHEREAS, New Mexico civic engagement, under the
sponsorship of the university of New Mexico's office for
community learning and public service, has worked with
community-based youth organizations in New Mexico since 2002;
and
WHEREAS, New Mexico civic engagement was formed in 2002
and works with youth-based organizations that successfully use
"adult/youth" partnerships to effect change in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico civic engagement has sponsored at the
university of New Mexico for the last five years summer
institutes involving over seven hundred school-aged youth and

adults that provides leadership training and civic education;
and
WHEREAS, New Mexico civic engagement has also conducted
annual legislative roundtables to allow state and local
organizations to present their proposals for new legislation to
members of the New Mexico house and senate; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico civic engagement has clearly
demonstrated in twenty-five different communities that the
youth voice is vibrant and articulate in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico civic engagement continues to affect
the lives of thousands of youth throughout New Mexico by its
relationship with successful community organizations and school
programs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
OF NEW MEXICO that it formally recognize New Mexico civic
engagement for its good deeds and accomplishments and for the
development of a successful New Mexico model for civic
engagement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it join with its youth and
adult partners to celebrate the fifth anniversary of New Mexico
civic engagement and wish New Mexico civic engagement continued
success for years to come; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
transmitted to the chair of the board of directors of New
Mexico civic engagement.
