A MEMORIAL

DESIGNATING FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2007, AS "DENTAL HYGIENISTS DAY" IN NEW MEXICO.

     WHEREAS, oral health is vital to the total wellness of the people of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, dental hygienists are licensed oral health care professionals dedicated to promoting the highest quality oral health care for the citizens of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, dental hygienists voluntarily give their time and effort to provide educational and preventive oral health care services to special needs groups, including the elderly, the disabled, the underprivileged and children; and

     WHEREAS, these services are essential in the dental office, public health facilities, nursing homes and schools to provide the best possible oral health care for all citizens; and

     WHEREAS, dental hygienists in New Mexico are recognized nationwide for their professional autonomy, self-regulation, collaborative practice model and initiatives in providing access to oral health care services;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Friday, February 9, 2007, be proclaimed "dental hygienists day" in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico board of dental health care.
