across the Rio Grande; and
WHEREAS, current efforts to provide alternatives to
individual motor vehicle traffic, such as buses, light rail and
bicycle lanes, do not necessarily reduce the traffic crossing
the Rio Grande; and
WHEREAS, the four main traffic routes across the Rio
Grande, Alameda boulevard, Paseo del Norte, Montano boulevard
and interstate 40, are not adequate to move efficiently the
increased traffic traveling back and forth across the Rio
Grande; and
WHEREAS, the concept of developing additional traffic
crossings over the Rio Grande in the Albuquerque metropolitan
area involves issues of location, economics, environmental
impact and aesthetics;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department
of transportation be requested to study the need for and the
feasibility of additional motor vehicle traffic crossings over
the Rio Grande in the Albuquerque metropolitan area; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department of
transportation report its findings and conclusions to the
appropriate interim legislative committee by November 15, 2007;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
transmitted to the secretary of transportation.
