A MEMORIAL

CALLING UPON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO ADDRESS THE INCREASING THREAT BY MEXICAN GREY WOLVES ON CHILDREN, PETS AND LIVELIHOODS IN SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO.

     WHEREAS, recently completed psychiatric studies have documented that children and adults have suffered trauma associated with wolf attacks and presence; and

     WHEREAS, studies indicate that wolves are becoming increasingly habituated to humans and human dwellings; and

     WHEREAS, wolf attacks on pets in close proximity to children and other persons have been increasing with the increase in wolf populations; and

     WHEREAS, severe adverse economic impacts from wolves are affecting small businesses and revenue sources for county and local governments;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the federal government be requested to take the necessary steps to ensure the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the federal government take the necessary steps to ensure that wolf reintroduction efforts do not adversely affect the economies of the counties and communities of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to New Mexico's congressional delegation.
