Senate Memorial 79 honors, congratulates and thanks Eduardo Holguin for his great
contributions to education in New Mexico.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Senate Memorial 79 states that Eduardo Holguin served the children of the Las Cruces Public
Schools as a fifth grade teacher for almost three decades. Eduardo Holguin served as Vice
President of the National Education Association of New Mexico and is completing his second
and last three-year term as President of the National Education Association of New Mexico.
According to SM 79, Eduardo Holguin is a native New Mexican and Graduate of Las Cruces
high school and New Mexico State University, with a Master’s Degree in counseling and
guidance. Eduardo Holguin has served the public school employees of New Mexico as a
representative on the National Education Association Board of Directors, a member of the
Educational Testing Service Teacher Program Council, a member of the Unit Accreditation
Board for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and as a New Mexico
Commissioner on the Education Commission of the States.
Eduardo Holguin has been a tireless advocate for children, public education and public education
employees before the New Mexico Legislature and in other venues. He has been responsible for
