SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Memorial 69 requests a study of the feasibility of transferring Corrales Elementary
School from the Albuquerque Public School District (APS) to the Rio Rancho Public School
District (RRPS).
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
There will be a fiscal impact to the general fund to conduct this study. The Public Education
Department is requested to conduct this study. SM 69 states that the department may contract for
services with recognized experts in the areas of school redistricting, public finance and taxation
and other specialties the department determines are necessary. The fiscal impact will depend on
the quantity and cost of these contracts, as well as, any administrative costs to the Public
Education Department.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Senate Memorial 69 states that Corrales Elementary School is the only school in APS that is
located in Sandoval County. Corrales is more closely linked to Rio Rancho than it is to
Albuquerque. An analysis of the feasibility and merits of transferring Corrales Elementary
School from APS to RRPS may be helpful to ascertain whether such transfer would benefit the
students of Corrales Elementary School and their families.
