SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 1172 appropriates $50.0 from the general fund to the Department of Military Affairs
for the purpose of developing and implementing in-service training programs for the members of
the State Defense Force Division.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50.0 contained in this bill is a non-recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert
to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Section 20-5-1 NMSA 1978 established the New Mexico State Defense Force as an element of
the militia in the Department of Military Affairs. The State Defense Force consists of persons
between the ages of 18 and 64 years voluntarily appointed or voluntarily enlisted and additional
member of the unorganized militia as may be appointed, enlisted, enrolled or inducted as
