SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 753 appropriates $100,000 from the General Fund to the Higher Education
Department for expenditure in FY 2008 for the Technical Preparation Program at Luna
Community College (LCC).
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $100,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the General Fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall revert to the
General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The appropriation in SB 753 will fund a summer program for local high school students on the
LCC campus. The program, in partnership with area high schools, offers math, science, and
technology courses in a college atmosphere, with course syllabi and structured curricula. The
Technical Preparation Program serves 50-80 students with instruction, exposure to technical
fields, and exploration of potential careers. Students may receive college credit hours for
successful course completion.
