SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Appropriates $50.0 from the General Fund in FY 2008 to conduct before and after school
programs designed to address juvenile delinquency, domestic violence, and educational
inadequacies.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the General Fund. Any
unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall revert to the General
Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Public Defender Department notes that before-school and after-school programs offer a
healthy and positive alternative for juveniles. These programs keep kids safe, improve academic
achievement and help relieve the stresses on today's working families. They can serve as
important youth violence prevention and intervention strategies.
