SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 681 appropriates $1,000,000 from the General Fund in the following amounts to the
following institutions for expenditure in FY08 to support athletic programs:
(1) $250,000 to New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU)
(2) $250,000 to Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU)
(3) $250,000 to Western New Mexico University (WNMU)
(4) $250,000 to Northern New Mexico State School (NNMSS)
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $1,000,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall revert to the
general fund.
HED indicates that the primary athletic expenses for Division II teams nationally are grants in
aid to students and salaries for coaches. The ENMU budget request indicates this as their case.
NMHU plans to use the funding for the women’s rodeo program and the men’s wrestling
