Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 626 declares the first Saturday of August of each year shall be set apart and known as
"New Mexico Youth Day", celebrating the importance of children in New Mexico. This day
shall be observed by the people of New Mexico with activities encouraging parents and
guardians to spend time together with their children.
Significant Issues
This day of recognition could serve as a bridge to improve relations between youths and their
parents but also across the community. New Mexico “Youth Day" could be a positive means of
self-expression that could provide learning experiences that support the development of
confidence and enhanced self-esteem among youth and the parents involved New Mexico’s
youths. This day of recognition could become a means of bridging relations between youth and
parents\guardians and possibly encourage improved communication among members of the
community.
