SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 302 appropriates $50.0 from the general fund to Department of Public Safety for the
purpose of a program to be developed and implemented by the board of directors of the New
Mexico mounted patrol for in-service law enforcement training of New Mexico mounted patrol
members.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50.0 contained in this bill is a non-recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert
to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
DPS reports the board of directors of the NM mounted patrol require 22 hours of in-service train-
ing annually. This training is mandated by the Department of Public Safety for commissioned
officers in accordance with Title 10, Chapter 29, Part 7, NMAC. DPS reports the members of
the NM mounted patrol exceed the Law Enforcement Academy requirement of 40 hours of in-
service training every two years. DPS notes there is no statutory requirement for the NM
mounted patrol members to attend in-service training.
