SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 63 appropriates $100.0 from the general fund to the Department of Military Affairs
for expenditure in fiscal years 2008 through 2011 to promote the submarine U.S.S. New Mexico
throughout the state, to help educate the submarine crew about New Mexico and to support mile-
stone ceremonies during the submarine’s construction and commissioning.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $100.0 contained in this bill is a non-recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2011 shall revert
to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Tourism Department states its support for any legislation that promotes tourism and edu-
cates visitors to the state. The department notes that a new ship in the United States Navy carry-
ing the name “New Mexico" broadcasts the state’s name across the entire U.S. Navy, the nation
and world.
