SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 1195 makes an appropriation of $1,500,000 to the Board of Regents at the University
of New Mexico (UNM) for statewide language teacher professional development.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $1,500,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall revert to the
general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
HED indicates that this proposal was not submitted to HED by UNM and was not included in the
Department’s funding recommendation for FY08.
UNM’s College of Education, Language, Literacy, and Socio-cultural Studies (LLSS) is
responsible for teacher education programs and specializes in English language learners and
bilingual education. Therefore, LLSS will provide oversight as this department supports
