SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 1044 appropriates $25 thousand from the general fund for expenditure in FY08 to the
Cultural Affairs department to contract with a nonprofit music organization that organizes a
competition for NM children 12 and under.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $25 thousand contained in House Bill 1044 is a recurring expense to the
General Fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall
revert to the General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
There are few such music competition events currently offered in New Mexico. An example of
an existing successful music competition is the New Mexico Music Commission’s Talent
