SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 963 appropriates $55,000 from the General Fund to the Board of Regents of New
Mexico State University (NMSU) to fund a summer drama program.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $55,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the General Fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY 08 shall revert to the
General Fund.
Per HED, this request was not submitted by NMSU to the Department for review and is not
included in their recommendation for FY 08.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
HED notes that NMSU has two programs which focus on K-12 education: the Theatre of Young
Audiences (TFYA) Program and Children’s Theatre Workshop (CTW). CTW is an after-school

grade students. From September through May, CTW

offers programs that focus on a period of history and/or a style of theater. During the summer,
CTW offers a program to work with students on producing an established play. The production is
given on the Hershel Zohn stage. Seventy five students participate in the CTW each year.
