Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 847 amends the Massage Therapy Practice Act, specifically, Section 61-12C-5.1.D to
clarify language regarding exemptions to the Massage Therapy Licensing Act by listing the
specific types of practitioners that are exempt from licensure.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
These changes to the Massage Therapy Act will be helpful to the State and the Regulation and
Licensing Department, and licensing board because it specifically identifies and clarifies those
practitioners who are exempt from the licensing act.

WHAT WILL BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF NOT ENACTING THIS BILL
The Massage Therapy Act will remain the same and all modalities that manipulate the soft
tissues for therapeutic purposes will be required to hold a valid massage therapy license to
legally practice.
