Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 804 appropriates $150.0 from the general fund to the Indian Affairs Department for
expenditure in FY08 for the purpose of funding the support center program and services at the
Institute of American Indian Arts.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $150 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the General
Fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of Fiscal Year 2008 shall
revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Indian Affairs Department reports IAIA is a congressionally chartered, accredited Tribal
College located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Its mission is to provide art and museum training
opportunities and education and outreach services to Indian students, tribes and the public.
There are 210 students enrolled this semester, including representatives from each of New
Mexico’s 22 tribes.
