SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
The House Business & Industry Committee substitute to House Bill 577 amends the Health
Maintenance Organization Law as follows:
•
Adds definitions of “pharmacist" and “pharmacist clinician".
•
Includes the services of pharmacists and pharmacist clinicians in the definition of
“basic health care services".
•
Includes in the definition of “health care services" pharmaceutical services.
•
Includes the services of a pharmacist and pharmacist clinician in the definition of
“provider".
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
RLD notes pharmacists and pharmacist clinician services are not typically included in contracts
of health insurance providers. Pharmacists and pharmacist clinicians provide valuable services to
the citizens of this state through medication management, disease management and expanded
