A MEMORIAL
DECLARING THE MONTH OF APRIL "OPEN YOUR HEART TO NEWBORNS IN
NEED" MONTH.
WHEREAS, each year over five thousand babies are born at
one Albuquerque hospital; and
WHEREAS, many families welcoming new babies into the
world have few resources and little discretionary income to
provide necessities for their babies; and
WHEREAS, car seats, strollers, baby monitors and
diapers, essential for healthy environments in which a baby
can survive, can be collected during an awareness campaign;
and
WHEREAS, over forty thousand items for newborns were
collected for the New Mexico newborns in need program last
year; and
WHEREAS, the newborns of New Mexico could greatly
benefit from a continuation of the program, which pairs
parents of newborns with the items and services they need;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE
STATE OF NEW MEXICO that April 1 to 30 be declared "Open Your
Heart to Newborns in Need" month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all persons are encouraged
to drop baby supplies off at the university of Phoenix during
the days of the special month-long celebration; and
