A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE ENERGY, MINERALS AND NATURAL RESOURCES

DEPARTMENT, THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, NEW

MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY AND NEW MEXICO DAIRY FARMERS TO

COOPERATE TO INVESTIGATE THE POSSIBILITY OF ALTERNATIVE USES

OF DAIRY BIOMASS FOR ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTS SUCH

AS PLASTIC, BUILDING MATERIALS OR OTHER PRODUCTS.

WHEREAS, New Mexico dairy farms produce a natural

biomass; and

WHEREAS, dairy farmers are the first true

conservationists; and

WHEREAS, dairy farmers are in need of additional funding

sources to sustain their enterprises; and

WHEREAS, dairy farmers desire to find other alternatives

for their biomass;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE

STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the energy, minerals and natural

resources department, the New Mexico department of

agriculture, New Mexico state university and New Mexico dairy

farmers be requested to cooperate to investigate the

possibility of alternative uses of dairy biomass for

environmentally friendly products such as plastic, building

materials or other products; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be

transmitted to the secretary of energy, minerals and natural

resources, the director of the New Mexico department of

agriculture, the president of New Mexico state university and

the executive director of the dairy producers of New Mexico.
