A JOINT MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE SANTA FE DESERT CHORALE FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS

OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CULTURAL LIFE OF THE STATE OF NEW

MEXICO.

WHEREAS, the Santa Fe desert chorale seeks to enrich the

lives of New Mexico residents, enhance the experience of

visitors and promote the wider appreciation of choral music

through presentation of concerts by an ensemble of

professional singers and the sponsorship of youth education

programs and community outreach activities; and

WHEREAS, the chorale is one of fewer than fifty

professional choral ensembles in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the chorale performs for local and tourist

audiences in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Taos and also reaches

a national audience through recordings and radio broadcasts;

and

WHEREAS, the chorale is committed to nurturing the

future of choral singing through its Santa Fe desert chorale

children's chorus; and

WHEREAS, the chorale has honored New Mexico's Hispanic

heritage by touring the historic churches of the state and

performing previously neglected choral works of the Spanish

colonial period; and

WHEREAS, the chorale is celebrating its twenty-fifth

anniversary of glorious voices and timeless music in 2007;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE

STATE OF NEW MEXICO that recognition and congratulations be

expressed to the Santa Fe desert chorale for its contributions

to the cultural life of the state of New Mexico; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be

transmitted to the music director of the desert chorale, the

cultural affairs department and the mayor of Santa Fe.
