AN ACT

RELATING TO HEALTH; REQUIRING THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE AND TO SEEK FEDERAL FUNDING FOR INTERPRETER SERVICES FOR MEDICAID AND CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE CLIENTS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. INTERPRETER SERVICES.--The human services department shall provide a medicaid client or a children's health insurance client with interpreter services when the need for such services is demonstrated, provided that funds are available under state and federal law for such services. The human services department shall promulgate rules for application for interpreter services and award of funds for such services by August 30, 2007. The department shall provide reimbursement for provision of such interpreter services to the extent that state and federal funds are available.
