AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO FUND CREATION OF A PLANNING GRANT TO ASSESS AND ADDRESS CURRENT RACIAL DISPARITIES IN THE HEALTH-RELATED FACULTY AT SOME OF NEW MEXICO'S INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for its office of diversity in the school of medicine for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 for the study of and needs assessment on tenure-track Hispano or Latino faculty and professionals interested in academic medicine, to describe fiscal and other barriers to increasing recruitment, retention and tenure of minority faculty in health sciences and to investigate promising best practices and models to improve workforce diversity within the schools of medicine, pharmacy and nursing. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
