AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR INCREASED COMPENSATION FOR DISTRICT ATTORNEYS AND STAFF.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Four million six hundred thirteen thousand one hundred eighty-one dollars sixty-nine cents ($4,613,181.69) is appropriated from the general fund to the administrative office of the district attorneys for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 to provide for increased compensation for district attorneys and their staff in budgeted positions, subject to satisfactory or better job performance. The increases in compensation shall be effective the first pay period after July 1, 2007, and the appropriation shall be distributed as follows:

          A. two million seven hundred seventy thousand six hundred thirty-six dollars ninety-two cents ($2,770,636.92) to provide a fifteen percent increase in compensation for district attorneys. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund; and

          B. one million eight hundred forty-two thousand five hundred forty-four dollars seventy-seven cents ($1,842,544.77) to provide all district attorney permanent employees, other than elected district attorneys, with a nine percent increase in compensation. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
