AN ACT

RELATING TO MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE; PROHIBITING FORMER LEGISLATORS FROM ACCEPTING COMPENSATION AS LOBBYISTS FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR AFTER LEAVING OFFICE.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Lobbyist Regulation Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] RESTRICTION ON LOBBYING BY FORMER MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE.--

          A. A member of the legislature shall not accept compensation as a lobbyist for a period of one calendar year after the member resigns from office, is removed from office or serves the member's term in office.

          B. A lobbyist's employer shall not compensate a member of the legislature as a lobbyist for a period of one calendar year after the member resigns from office, is removed from office or serves the member's term in office."
