AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO REPLACE CURRENT PLACARDS FOR PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY WITH PHOTO-IDENTIFIED PLACARDS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the motor vehicle division of the taxation and revenue department for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 to recall eighty thousand placards for use by persons with a disability; to replace the placards with new ones that include a picture on the inside of the placard covered by a flap, a hologram to make duplication difficult and an imprinted expiration date; and to continue issuance of the placards in the new format in consultation with the governor's commission on disability. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
