AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR CORE FACULTY IN AFRICANA STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 and subsequent fiscal years to build a core faculty in Africana studies, becoming the only such program in the state. The core faculty will be able to expand the African American studies department, create distance learning coursework, conduct research and support undergraduate and graduate students in Africana studies. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a fiscal year shall not revert to the general fund.
