A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO HOSPITAL TO REPORT ON

ITS LEGAL OBLIGATION TO MAKE AVAILABLE A MINIMUM OF ONE HUNDRED

BEDS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN PATIENTS.

WHEREAS, questions have arisen about the current status of

the university of New Mexico hospital's legal obligation to

make available a minimum of one hundred beds for Native

American patients;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE

OF NEW MEXICO that the university of New Mexico report to the

interim legislative Indian affairs committee by October 2006 on

its understanding of the extent of its legal obligation to make

beds available for Native Americans and the basis of this

understanding and on whether this obligation is being

satisfied; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be

transmitted to the president of the board of regents of the

university of New Mexico, the co-chairs of the Indian affairs

committee, the management of the university of New Mexico

health sciences center and of the university of New Mexico

hospital, the Bernalillo county board of county commissioners

and the chair of the all Indian pueblo council.
