A JOINT MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE LEGISLATIVE BUILDING SERVICES STAFF MEMBERS FOR THEIR QUICK RESPONSE TO THE BROKEN WATER PIPE OF DECEMBER 2005.
WHEREAS, below-freezing temperatures on December 8, 2005 transformed an ordinary capitol rooftop water pipe into a weapon of wet destruction; and
WHEREAS, thank goodness, the fire alarm system alerted capitol occupants to the situation; and
WHEREAS, a quick response by the building services staff identified the source of the problem and stopped the flowing water, thereby avoiding damage to the capitol's valuable art collection, computer equipment and important files; and
WHEREAS, the building services staff demonstrated exemplary teamwork in getting cleanup and repairs underway as quickly as possible; and
WHEREAS, through staff oversight of the restoration work, the public spaces and capitol offices were returned to their prior condition in time for the start of the 2006 legislative session;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislature's gratitude and appreciation be conveyed to the legislative building services staff members for their professional and prompt response to this unnatural disaster; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the building services staff members.
