A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO INSTITUTE OF MINING AND TECHNOLOGY TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF JOINING OTHER INSTITUTIONS IN TRAINING INJURED MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATION ASSURANCE.

     WHEREAS, "information assurance" is the term used to describe techniques of assuring secure and accurate data transmission and reception by all manner of electronic and digital communications; and

     WHEREAS, electronic and digital information systems require a dedicated workforce well-trained in information assurance in order to secure information from tampering and unauthorized access; and

     WHEREAS, thousands of military service members, many who had plans for a military career, have service-related injuries that prevent or will prevent them from returning to military duty; and

     WHEREAS, Auburn university in Alabama and Boise state university in Idaho are pursuing federal funding to train injured military service members for careers in the information assurance field;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico institute of mining and technology be requested to study the feasibility of joining Auburn university and Boise state university in the effort to train injured military service members in the information assurance field; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the New Mexico institute of mining and technology.
