A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 8, 2006 AS "CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE ANESTHETISTS DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, certified registered nurse anesthetists are essential to New Mexico's health care system, having provided high-quality, cost-effective anesthesia care for more than one hundred years; and

     WHEREAS, certified registered nurse anesthetists are anesthesia specialists who administer approximately two-thirds of the twenty-six million anesthetics given to patients each year in the United States; and

     WHEREAS, certified registered nurse anesthetists are the sole anesthesia providers in more than half of New Mexico hospitals, allowing those hospitals to provide patients with obstetrical, surgical and trauma stabilization services; and

     WHEREAS, certified registered nurse anesthetists practice in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered, including traditional hospital surgical suites and obstetrical delivery rooms; critical access hospitals; ambulatory surgical centers; the offices of dentists, podiatrists, ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons; and United States military, public health services and veterans administration health care facilities;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that certified registered nurse anesthetists be honored and recognized as outstanding health care professionals and that they be thanked for their dedication, contributions and commitment to improving the quality of care in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 8, 2006 be declared "Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Day" in the house of representatives.
