A MEMORIAL
URGING THAT THE NEW MEXICO CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION GIVE FIRST
PRIORITY TO PROVIDING FUNDING FOR SUPERIOR BODY ARMOR AND
SUPPLEMENTAL VEHICLE ARMOR TO PROTECT UNITED STATES MILITARY
PERSONNEL IN IRAQ.
WHEREAS, the world press has widely reported about the
inadequacies of the armor provided to protect both military
personnel and military vehicles in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of the United States armed
forces serving in Iraq deserve the best personal protection
available as they fight on behalf of the country in a hostile
and unpredictable foreign war; and
WHEREAS, spending one thousand five hundred dollars
($1,500) for each kevlar vest with small-arms protective
inserts would be most effective in preventing torso injuries

and should be the highest priority in the budget for military
service men and women, since human lives and futures are at
stake; and
WHEREAS, in light of the tactics being used by the
opposition, no expense should be spared in equipping United
States personnel and military vehicles so that they are able to
withstand attack;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the members of
the New Mexico congressional delegation be urged to make
protection of military personnel and vehicles the highest
priority for funding; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
transmitted to each member of the New Mexico congressional
delegation.
