A JOINT MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 7, 2006 AS "HONORING INDIAN CHILDREN THROUGH EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP DAY" AT THE LEGISLATURE.

 

     WHEREAS, Indian children are to be nurtured, valued, protected and treated with respect and dignity; and

     WHEREAS, it is our responsibility to ensure that Indian children receive an education that values and respects the wisdom, knowledge, cultures and languages of their tribal communities; and

     WHEREAS, the contributions of Indian children to their tribal communities, schools and families and to the state should be celebrated; and

     WHEREAS, Indian children deserve a quality education to continue the legacy of strong Indian leadership for tribal nations and the state;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 7, 2006 be recognized as "Honoring Indian Children Through Education and Leadership Day" at the legislature.
