A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THAT THE NEW MEXICO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL DIRECT THE APPROPRIATE INTERIM LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE TO DEVELOP AN ENTREPRENEURS' BILL OF RIGHTS.

 

     WHEREAS, the W.K. Kellogg foundation awarded a two-million-dollar ($2,000,000) grant to a coalition of New Mexico organizations that is called the empowering business spirit initiative; and

     WHEREAS, the coalition, due to its innovative and collaborative approach, is one of only six groups to receive funding out of over one hundred eighty proposals submitted nationwide; and

     WHEREAS, the empowering business spirit initiative partners and service providers work in a coordinated and collaborative fashion with entrepreneurs and small businesses in northern New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the empowering business spirit initiative is committed to making New Mexico the perfect place to start and grow a business; and

     WHEREAS, the partners of the empowering business spirit initiative have come together to improve services to entrepreneurs using advanced technology, heightened cooperation among the partners and more efficient use of existing resources; and

     WHEREAS, creating a culture that is entrepreneur friendly will improve the quality of life and character of New Mexico communities; and

     WHEREAS, the encouragement of entrepreneurial development is a fundamental element of successful economic development; and

     WHEREAS, the creation of jobs in rural New Mexico is largely reliant on the success of new entrepreneurial start-up companies;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico legislative council be requested to direct the appropriate interim legislative committee to develop an entrepreneurs' bill of rights; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the co-chairs of the New Mexico legislative council.
