SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 632 appropriates $336.5 from the general fund to the Second Judicial District Attor-
ney for the purpose of creating a methamphetamine prosecution unit that prosecutes felony
crimes related to methamphetamine. The bill provides that the appropriation be used for salaries
and benefits for seven additional FTE: four additional assistant trial attorneys, two secretaries
and one prosecution specialist, and associated operating expenses.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $336.5 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any
unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the
general fund.
The agency requested this appropriation and the seven related FTE as base expansion in their
FY07 appropriation request. Neither the LFC nor the Executive recommended this base expan-
sion. The LFC did recommend expansion of $143.1 for two additional FTE for DWI prosecution
and 1.5 FTE for the prosecution of crimes against children.
