SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 618 appropriates $40,000 from the general fund to the Board of Regents of the New
Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMTech) for expenditure in FY07 for an organiza-
tion dedicated to preparing students for careers in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences.
The appropriation shall be used to expand the programs of the organization to Tohatchi middle
school and Zuni high school. The organization to be supported through the appropriation is ap-
parently New Mexico Math, Engineering & Science Achievement, Inc. (NM MESA).
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $40,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert
to the general fund.
For fiscal year 2006, HED received an appropriation of $914,400 for this program and NMTech
submitted a fiscal year 2007 program change request to the HED in the amount of $162,000, for
