SUMMARY
House Bill 307 appropriates general fund to expand the programmatic capacity of smaller and
rural museums and to add a state-specific component to federally funded humanities programs.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
House Bill 307 appropriates $200.0 from the general fund and is recurring. Any unexpended or
unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
According to DCA, working with the New Mexico Humanities Council and based on an earlier,
successful project funded through the Institute for Museum and Library Services, this program is
the only one in the state that systematically tries to address the needs of small, rural New Mexico
museums.
PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
The DCA has is its mission the support and development of New Mexico’s cultural resources.
The legislation supports a program providing services aimed at improving the infrastructure of
local museums.
