A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO ADVOCATE
FOR FULL FEDERAL FUNDING OF SOUTHWESTERN INDIAN POLYTECHNIC
INSTITUTE.
WHEREAS, southwestern Indian polytechnic institute,
commonly known as SIPI, is a national Indian community college
and land grant institution created pursuant to a vision of the
all Indian pueblo council to serve the Native American
community; and
WHEREAS, since 1971, the institute has provided its
students with the technical and higher education opportunities
they need to attain higher levels of academic achievement and
become self-sufficient, contributing members of society; and
WHEREAS, the institute endeavors to enhance its
students' mental, social, physical, spiritual and cultural
well-being; and
WHEREAS, the institute fulfills a unique role in its
provision of education and opportunities for Native Americans
from across the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the members of
the New Mexico congressional delegation be requested to make
every effort to persuade their congressional colleagues to
provide full funding of the operations of the southwestern

Indian polytechnic institute so that it may achieve its worthy
goals; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
transmitted to the members of the New Mexico congressional
delegation.
