AN ACT
RELATING TO TOURISM; DECLARING THAT THE SHEEP SPRINGS WELCOME CENTER IS AN OFFICIAL STATE WELCOME CENTER; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. STATE WELCOME CENTER--SHEEP SPRINGS--JOINT ADMINISTRATION AND OPERATION--INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT AUTHORIZED.--
A. The welcome center in Sheep Springs, New Mexico, is declared an official state welcome center to be known as the "Sheep Springs welcome center" and shall be jointly administered and operated through an intergovernmental agreement between the tourism department and the Navajo Nation.
B. The tourism department shall initiate discussions with the economic development division of the Navajo Nation to develop and execute an intergovernmental agreement that defines duties and responsibilities for operation, administration, funding and maintenance and repair of the Sheep Springs welcome center.
Section 2. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred twenty-eight thousand dollars ($128,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the tourism department for expenditure in fiscal year 2007 to begin operation of the Sheep Springs welcome center. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
