AN ACT

MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF NEW MEXICO INSTITUTE OF MINING AND TECHNOLOGY FOR AN ORGANIZATION THAT PREPARES STUDENTS FOR CAREERS IN MATHEMATICS, ENGINEERING AND THE SCIENCES; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--

          A. Forty thousand dollars ($40,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico institute of mining and technology for expenditure in fiscal years 2006 and 2007 for an organization dedicated to preparing students for careers in mathematics, engineering and the sciences. The recurring appropriation shall also be used to expand the programs of the organization in Tohatchi middle school and Zuni high school.

          B. Forty thousand dollars ($40,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico institute of mining and technology for expenditure in fiscal years 2006 and 2007 for an organization dedicated to preparing students for careers in mathematics, engineering and the sciences. The recurring appropriation shall be used to expand the annual parent institute of the organization to Tohatchi middle school and Zuni high school.

          C. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.

     Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
