AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO SUPPORT FOOD BANKS STATEWIDE AND PROVIDE FOOD FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLCHILDREN.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. One million two hundred thousand dollars ($1,200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of finance and administration for expenditure in fiscal year 2007 as follows:

                (1) six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) to increase funding for the operation of food banks statewide;

                (2) two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for public school lunches; and

                (3) four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) to contract with a statewide association of food banks to purchase foods from New Mexico producers and vendors for an emergency food program and the food for kids backpack program.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
