AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO SUPPORT A PILOT PROGRAM FOR TEACHER TRAINING, STUDENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR AT-RISK HISPANIC TEENS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico highlands university for expenditure in fiscal years 2006 and 2007 to support a pilot program that provides teacher training, student leadership development and family education programs and that also provides a culturally based language arts and social science curriculum for at-risk Hispanic teens and family orientation and goal planning initiatives. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
